Cybercrimes – A threat to the internet.

Cyber-crimes mean crime or attack on computer or network and this computer-oriented crime can be a massive threat to an individual, group, private or public organisation or t the nation too. The intention behind this cybercrime is theft, harassment, bullying, and mental harm. Cyber can be a threat to the internet because hackers can steal any critical and confidential information. 

Theft of information results in loss of money by taking essentials like OTP, password, etc. Cyber terrorism is done through viruses by to network, web-site defacing, denial of service attacks, via any electronic media or device. Stealing identities and violating privacy are also included in cyber-crimes. According to reports, due to this cyberattacks, the global economy has to bear a loss of $450 billion and $600 billion lost every year due to this cyber frauds. 

                         Types of cyber-crimes.


Cyberextortion 

Basically, in this type of cyberattack, hackers try to attack personal and confidential information with the help of email, social networking site, mobile apps and then, they blackmail the users and demand money to stop the denial service attacks. They basically attack an organisation so that they will get a handsome amount. There are also other methods of cyber extortion like bug poaching and doxing extortion.

Cyberterrorism 

 Cyber terrorism is done on government servers and other private or public organisations. They perform several attacks against a network and try to steal the stored information. Cyber terrorism is an illegal activity, and a person or group can be arrested for this crime.

Cyber Sex trafficking 

Cybersex trafficking means any assaultive activity is forcefully done through social media, video call, online chat, etc. Cybersex trafficking is done through any gadget, which includes tablet, computer, mobile phone, etc. and this cyber-sex trafficking is ruining the life of millions.

Money frauds 

The technical experts to steal can do anything to get your money out from you without you knowing it. Any financial transaction done electronically is not safe and can be taken. So, always be aware while doing any online activity related to purchasing.

 Phishing scam

Phishing is also a type of cyber attack through which hacker tries to steal personal information by attacking the website of a computer user. Through this method, they try to take OTP, banking passwords, social security numbers, etc. In phishing they usually try to login our social media handles like instagram, facebook and others on which we are mostly active on. Through phishing they can easily gain excess to our location.

If computers and mobile phones help us in various vital works, it has certain disadvantages too, and one of its problems includes hacking and stealing of information. A computer is a tool through which hacking and cyber crimes is to be conducted, and the machine is also the tool on which cyber-attacks is to be performed.

  1. 1.  Antivirus software – Antivirus software is said to be the bodyguard of your device which protects it from attacks and malware viruses and ensure safety and security of your devices.
  2. 2.  Use secure passcode – Always make sure that you are using strong passcode which includes letters, numbers, underscore, symbol, etc. and repetition of password for different sites must not be done to prevent your device from hacking.
  3. 3.  Update your software frequently – Hackers first always try to access faulty and old software and data. The reason why your device needs to be updated because it has some faults and bugs included it and cyber crimes can be easily performed on faulty software. So, frequent updating of software is a must.
  4. 4.   Be aware of unsecured websites – Nowadays your mobile phone or browser shows warning notification to you when you try to open unsecured websites and also check “s” after HTTP because “s” after HTTP stands for secured.
  5. 5.   Social media privacy settings – Hackers sometimes can get private information through social media. So, keep your privacy settings personal and don’t share too much information on it. On the two factor authentication on your social media account.
  6. 6.  Use of VPN – When you use an unsecured WI-FI or public WI-FI then switch on the virtual private network to protect your device from virus and attacks.
  7. 7.  Be updated - When you see, there is anything wrong happening with your device or bank A/c then immediately change your password to keep protected.
  8. 8.  Alert FBI – If you have become the victim of cybercrime suddenly, you must inform it to FBI or cyber police station about what happened with you because if once, then can steal further too.
